David Moyes was predictably jubilant after Everton won their first game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium 2-0 against Brighton.

The Toffees have had a difficult few years but this new stadium has reinvigorated the fans, and they witnessed a top performance from the team today.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Moyes said: “Fantastic, look I don’t think there’s any manager who enjoys playing against Brighton because of their style and what they do. It was a difficult game to come up against them in the first game here because it was difficult to press them and get about them as much as we would like but I thought we did a good job.”

Iliman Ndiaye and James Garner got the goals as Jack Grealish assisted both. The Englishman was brilliant on his full debut.

On the duo of Ndiaye and Grealish, who already seem to have a strong partnership, Moyes said: “If anything what we’ve been lacking here is a bit of quality and flair. Ndiaye was in the team but we’ve lacked wide players who can handle the ball, and like we saw today, get assists.”

The Scottish manager said the fans were brilliant but the next step for the club is to build a top team.

“It was a great first win so really pleased. The atmosphere and noise was fabulous when we got the goals. The crowd were great. At the end you can see what it means to them. They’ll grow into the stadium.

“We’ve got a brilliant stadium now. The plan is over the next few years to try and build a top team. Coming back to Everton has been a great move (for me). It’s been a brilliant opportunity and there crowd are right behind us which is really important.”
