David Moyes’ West Ham United future was the subject of speculation for months.

But the Premier League club finally announced on Monday that he will step down as manager at the end of the season.

Moyes enjoyed a hugely successful period at West Ham but many supporters constantly expressed their dissatisfaction with his defensive brand of football.

However, the 61-year-old deserves far more respect than many people have shown him in recent months.

The Hammers have struggled to perform well this season, but they are still on course to finish in the upper half of the Premier League table.

When Moyes returned for his second spell with the club in December 2019, the Hammers were just one point above the relegation zone.

Nobody cared about the brand of football as everyone’s focus was survival in the English top-flight.

The first few months were difficult, but Moyes kept them up after inspiring several impressive results.

This was the second time he saved West Ham from relegation, having achieved the same feat in 2018.

Moyes built a strong team that secured sixth and seventh-place finishes and won the Europa Conference League.

This was their first piece of silverware since 1980, when they lifted the FA Cup by beating Arsenal in the final.

Moyes has done a solid job at West Ham and there is no guarantee his replacement will improve their fortunes.
