Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement with Al-Hilal to sign Darwin Nunez.

The Saudi Pro League club will pay an initial €53 million (£46.2 million), rising to €65 million (£56.6 million) with add-ons.

The striker is expected to join Al-Hilal’s pre-season training camp in Germany later this week if negotiations continue to progress.

Al-Hilal identified Nunez as a priority target earlier in the summer and stepped up their efforts last week.

AC Milan also showed interest but were never in a position to compete financially with the Saudi Pro League club.

Al-Hilal are reportedly willing to meet the 26-year-old’s wage demands in full.

Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022. He has scored 40 goals in 143 appearances.

Despite showing promise, he struggled to secure a regular starting role, particularly following Arne Slot’s appointment as manager.

Nunez started only eight Premier League matches last season. He scored just seven times in all competitions.

His most memorable contribution came in January when he scored twice in stoppage time to seal a comeback win at Brentford.

Liverpool previously rejected a €70m offer from Al-Nassr in January. However, with Slot overseeing a squad overhaul, the club have decided to accept Al-Hilal’s proposal.

The Reds have already signed Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, along with Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth and Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

They also had a £110 million bid for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak rejected last week.

Liverpool are expected to explore options for a replacement for Nunez before the transfer window closes.
