Darwin Nunez made Liverpool history with his late goal to seal a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Liverpool had been frustrated all afternoon and looked set to drop points when Nunez drew an excellent save from Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels in the 95th minute, but the Uruguay international refused to accept defeat and popped up with the eventual winner four minutes later.

Nunez's goal clocked in 98 minutes and 35 seconds, which is the latest winning goal Liverpool have scored in the Premier League since records began.

The strike was also the tenth-latest goal in Premier League history, continuing the recent increase in late goals. Seven of the top ten have been scored since the start of 2023.

The goal almost felt like poetic justice for Nunez after he had been the subject of taunts from Forest fans earlier in the game.

Chants of 'You're just a s**t Andy Carroll' could be heard before Nunez's late winner, with manager Jurgen Klopp joking that the jibes did nothing but make the striker work harder to score.

"I would not sing a song like that," Klopp laughed. "I would not try to wind Darwin up."

The victory means Liverpool remain in control in the Premier League title race. The Reds moved four points ahead of second-place Manchester City, who play their game in hand on Sunday against Manchester United.

Arsenal are now five points behind but can reduce that gap to just two points once again when they face Sheffield United on Monday evening.
