Matteo Darmian is on the verge of sealing his contract renewal with Inter Milan, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Italian has been a core part of Simone Inzaghi’s squad this season, making 20 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with a goal and two assists.

Darmian has been locked in negotiations with the Nerazzurri for several weeks, and both sides have now finally reached an agreement with only an official statement pending.

The 33-year-old will sign a new deal that will see him stay at the San Siro Stadium until 2024, with the option of an extra season.

Darmian initially joined Inter on a loan deal from Parma before making the move permanent in the summer of 2021. He has made 89 appearances for the Nerazzurri since, contributing seven goals and nine assists.

The former Manchester United defender’s new deal with the Italian giants will see him earn around €2.5 million per season.

Darmian is one of several Inter players who are approaching the final moments of their contracts, and the club are keen to keep most of their stars.

Hakan Calhanoglu, who joined from fierce rivals AC Milan, is also expected to commit his future to the club after Darmian’s renewal.

Defensive duo Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij could also leave at the end of the season, with their contracts set to expire next summer.

The Nerazzurri have started scouring the market for a potential replacement for the Slovakian and are eyeing up a move for AS Roma defender Chris Smalling.
