Shelbourne FC is delighted to announce the signing of Daniel Kelly from Derry City.
The 28-year-old winger, a native of Ringsend, becomes Damien Duff’s second new signing ahead of the 2025 season, following the capture of Ryan O’Kane from Dundalk FC..
Kelly joins the Champions from Derry City, where he has been a regular at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium until an injury brought an early end to his season in 2024.
Prior to arriving to Derry in the winter of 2023, Kelly spent five successful seasons at Oriel Park, where he won the League of Ireland, FAI Cup and EA Sports Cup with Dundalk FC.
Kelly made 26 appearances for the Candystripes last term, netting once in the Premier Division and providing 5 assists across the season.
A versatile and technically gifted wide player, Kelly has operated effectively on both wings over his career. Kelly’s former clubs also include Bray Wanderers and Bohemian FC.
Daniel Kelly said: “I was over the moon to get the call, Shelbourne is a huge club and it will be a major honour to represent Shels, it’s particularly special because of the Ringsend connection, so many of my family and friends are Shels fans, it’s an ambitious group, and I’m excited to be apart of it.”
Damien Duff, Shelbourne FC manager said: “Daniel is a massive signing for the squad. He has a great honesty and enthusiasm in his character so he will fit brilliantly into a dressing room where he knows a lot of guys already. On the pitch he brings top speed to our play, something we have wanted to bring to our team for a long while. He is direct, wants to score goals and most importantly wants to win”
Luke Byrne, Shelbourne FC Technical Director said: “We’re delighted to welcome Dano to the club. He’s a Ringsend man and this is somewhere I think he always wanted to play his football. He brings experience, a winning mentality and a great enthusiasm to our squad. On the pitch, he adds a speed and directness to our attack. We’re excited to get to work with him.”
