Sky Sports have now brought news on the latest Newcastle United bid for Marc Guehi.

They report that after an opening offer was turned down by Crystal Palace, Newcastle made an improved bid of around £50m on Thursday.

Sky Sports now say on Friday morning that this second offer has also been turned down and Crystal Palace waiting to see what Newcastle United come back with this time.

Last Friday the news first broke (see below) that Newcastle United had approached Crystal Palace to try and sign the England defender.

Now we all have to wait and see what the next move is, with Sky Sports saying that Crystal Palace are hoping for £65m.

Marc Guehi has refused to sign a new contract and has less than two years remaining on his current deal, so Palace know that failing to sell in this transfer window will see a significantly weakened position in terms of selling price in January 2025 or beyond.

The Mag report – 2 August 2024:

The breaking news on Friday afternoon is that Newcastle United are in talks to sign Marc Guehi.

The exclusive coming from David Ornstein at The Athletic.

Ornstein has proved himself to be easily the best source of exclusives on Newcastle United (and other clubs), an extraordinary success rate compared to the rest.

The man from The Athletic states that Newcastle United have made their approach this week and that talks are now in progress.

Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon have both been given extended leave after England reached the Euros final on 14 July, so no doubt Marc Guehi the same with Crystal Palace. The NUFC England pair are expected back at the training ground after this weekend, to join up with the rest of the squad who are returning from Japan.

Marc Guehi had an excellent 2023/24 season and followed that up with six starts in Germany, including the final, the defender suspended for the other game. The 24 year old was one of England’s best performers.

David Ornstein states that whilst a lot of top clubs are interested, ‘Newcastle are the first to enter meaningful talks as they pursue what would be regarded a significant coup.’

He adds that Marc Guehi now has less than two years left on his current contract and has refused to extend this current deal, meaning that Crystal Palace are under pressure to sell this transfer window, or end up next summer with a player who could/woild only have one year left on his deal and Palace in a very weak position.
