“Michael trained all week with the team, so there is a chance that he will be with the squad," he said. “The other two [James McArthur and James Tomkins] it will be too short for them.

“[Nathan Ferguson] just had a setback. It's too early to talk about, but obviously he didn't train in the last couple of days with the team."

Being more clinical is a key focus for Vieira, after a frustrating season opener against Arsenal.

“Against those kinds of teams it's about taking chances," he explained. “We have to perform well out of position, we have to accept that during the 90 minutes we will have difficult periods. It's about being patient and waiting for the right moment to hurt them.

“We know we have the players to do well going forward but the other side of the game is defending well as a team and working hard not to concede a goal.

“We have to score those chances. Look at the game we played against Arsenal: the frustration is that we had two clear chances and we should score a goal, and the game will be different."
