Premier League Awards: Forest fume, audacious Eze

Our weekly Premier League awards honour the best – and worst – of the football action from the weekend.

Moment of the Week

It just has to be that social media post.

Nottingham Forest were pushed closer to the Premier League’s trap door after losing a relegation six-pointer at Everton, though it’s the aftermath that has caused the biggest controversy of the weekend.

Forest saw three, credible, penalty appeals turned down at Goodison Park and can quite rightly feel aggrieved at those decisions, but the social media post aimed in the direction of the PGMOL is truly terrible.

The club’s official account have set a dangerous precedent after questioning the integrity of the officials, outlining their displeasure at the appointment of Stuart Attwell, a fan of relegation rivals Luton Town, on VAR.

‘Embarrassing’ was how Jamie Carragher called it to Sky Sports, who likened the post to ‘a fan in a pub’. Gary Neville agreed, calling it ‘horrible’.

Expect this to rumble on.

Player of the Week

Here at TFF, we’re fully signed up members of the Eberechi Eze fan club.

The Crystal Palace midfielder is everything you want for the admission fee at Selhurst Park, exciting, inventive, fun and full of flair. Against West Ham this weekend he was up to usual tricks – and plenty of them.

Eze completed five dribbles, more than the entire West Ham team combined, as Palace thrashed their London neighbours in a season-best performance. He scored the second in their 5-2 win with a stunning overhead kick and created the fifth with a cheeky nutmeg of Kurt Zouma in the build up.

Eze appears to have become a forgotten figure in the race to make the England squad this summer, but she shouldn’t be. He’s got a real x-factor.

Goal of the Week

That man, again.

Take a bow Eberechi Eze.

The height. The connection. Picture perfect from the Palace midfielder.

An honourable mention for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who got Liverpool up and running at Fulham with a superb set-piece. Only Jamie Redknapp (8) and Steven Gerrard (7) have now scored more Premier League free-kicks for Liverpool (6).

He’s back.

Save of the Week

A brilliant sprawling stop from Jordan Pickford, who shutout Nottingham Forest to help Everton to a priceless win.

Big save, big celebration.

A 10th clean sheet of the campaign for England’s number one, only Arsenal’s David Raya has more.

Stat of the Week

We have no idea who works out stats like this, but fair play.

A mad statistic around Liverpool’s chopping and changing this season.

Tweet of the Week

We wouldn’t put this past Evangelos Marinakis, to be fair.
