Cristiano Ronaldo will be on the move this summer after Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez broke a promise he made to the club’s star player.

At least, that’s according to Portuguese outlet Record, who claim Ronaldo is unhappy with the new contract being offered to him and feels undervalued by the La Liga giants.

The 33-year-old’s current deal isn’t set to expire until June 2021 but he is understood to be earning significantly less than the likes of Lionel Messi at Barcelona and Neymar at Paris Saint-Germain.

Pérez is believed to have assured Ronaldo that he would become the world’s highest paid player after the 2017 Champions League final victory over Juventus but a satisfactory offer has not yet been forthcoming and the player has reached the end of his tether.

Record claim the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will have three options when he leaves the Bernabéu.

He could return to England, where he would most likely rejoin Manchester United, whom he left for Madrid back in 2009.

Another option is PSG, and a move to the Ligue 1 champions could potentially see Neymar moving in the opposite direction.

Or perhaps most surprisingly, he could move to Serie A, with Juventus mooted as his most realistic suitor.

Money isn’t said to be only motivating factor in Ronaldo’s decision, however.

The forward is said to have been left dismayed by the departure of Zinedine Zidane last week, while a number of his other dressing room allies – such as Pepe, Fábio Coentrão and James Rodríguez – have all left the club in the last 12 months.

Los Blancos general manager José Ángel Sánchez is understood to have held a meeting with super agent Jorge Mendes last Tuesday in which he was told, in no uncertain terms, that Ronaldo has decided to leave the club.

Fasten your seatbelts.
