After a whirlwind few months since that explosive interview with Piers Morgan, Cristiano Ronaldo has found himself playing his football in Saudi Arabia with Al Nassr.
Over the weekend, the Portuguese record-breaker finally made his debut for the club having had to serve a ban that carried over from the Premier League.
The debut itself was nothing special, although the 38-year-old did score a double a few days earlier in a Saudi League All-Star match against PSG in what was likely his and Lionel Messi’s final dance together.
No doubt CR7 will rapidly get to grips with the Saudi Pro League and score a hatful of goals such is his ridiculous quality in a league far below the standards he has set over his stellar career. However, in the meantime, Ronaldo seems to be enjoying his experiences away from the pitch in what must be a rather different culture and surroundings to what he has experienced before.
That said, the luxury and status he affords doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon as he met up with former UFC star Francis Ngannou recently.
The pair shared a light-hearted stand-off for the cameras in which they stared intensely at one another before breaking out into laughter.
Fortunately for Ronaldo, the stare-off was just for fun as you would imagine the Cameroonian former heavyweight champion could probably take him despite his ridiculous physique for his age.
Some seem to disagree, however, as can be seen on a poll underneath ESPN’s tweet of the footage.
The poll, set up by journalist Omar Al Raisi gives the options of a ‘CR 1st round knockout’ or ‘Ngannou on points’ and so far after 8,147 votes, a CR7 knockout has 63.1% of the votes.
Twitter is a strange place, but who knows, maybe CR7 could knuckleball Ngannou out of the cage.
What will come of Ronaldo’s move remains to be seen, but at the moment he seems set on enjoying himself.
We for one would love to see him back in Europe at some point before his retirement; ideally playing alongside Messi to complete the dream football fans have had for years.
At this point, though, such a dream looks unlikely, and even if he is now in Saudi Arabia, whenever the chance arises, CR7 will always be worth a watch regardless of whether you are a Messi or a Ronaldo fan. He will always be one of the greats.
