Sometimes the greatest of goals come from the most unexpected of places.
That is precisely the case with Michael Doyleâs strike for Coventry City in their League Two match against Wycombe Wanderers on Friday.
Former Celtic trainee Doyle is hardly a renowned goalscorer and League Two is not necessarily associated with technically brilliant strikes but this is an exception.
14 minutes in, Doyle stepped up to intercept a loose Wycombe pass not far from the half-way line.
He must have seen the Wycombe keeper off his line because just as he approached the ball, instead of taking a touch or simply clearing it out of play, he smacked it viciously towards the Wycombe goal.
The goalkeeper wasnât even that far from his goal but he was clearly caught by surprise and couldnât prevent the ball from dipping into the net.
Weâve analysed the goal dozens of times and concluded that Doyle definitely did it on purpose.
It was an absolute stroke of genius and he will fully deserve his goal of the season award come May.
