Coventry City are in pole position to sign Bristol City defender Jay Dasilva, according to Coventry Live.

Football Insider first revealed yesterday that Coventry were in talks with the Robins over a potential move for Dasilva, whose contract at Ashton Gate expires at the end of the season.

However, Bristol Live claimed this morning that Birmingham City retain their long-term interest in Dasilva having made a move for him in the summer, but that the Blues were not optimistic of being able to secure a deal this month.

Dasilva joined the Robins initially on loan from Chelsea in August 2018, before making the move permanent the following summer. The 24-year-old had started the season as first choice, but he has fallen out of favour in recent weeks, with Nigel Pearson preferring Cameron Pring on the left side of defence.

Coventry Live report that Dasilva is the Sky Blues’ one and only deadline target target and that Mark Robins is hopeful of getting a deal over the line for Dasilva either before tonight’s 11pm deadline or in the summer.

Another factor which is convincing Dasilva to want to make the switch to the Coventry Building Society Arena is the opportunity to be reunited with first team coach Adi Viveash, who we worked with during his time in the academy at Stamford Bridge.

The verdict

Dasilva would be a good signing for Coventry.

He would bring a wealth of Championship experience to the Midlands and help to solve a problem position for Robins.

Pring has established himself as Pearson’s first choice left back in recent weeks and with the Robins form improving, Dasilva was unlikely to be handed many opportunities in the near future.

If he can get regular game time with the Sky Blues, it will be a good career move and he could prove a useful asset in their play-off push.
