Coventry City have named their price for striker Viktor Gyokeres following reports of interest from Premier League side Everton.

Gyokeres first joined Coventry on a six-month loan deal from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2021. During that spell, he made seven starts and 12 substitute appearances, scoring three times.

This was enough to encourage the Sky Blues to take him on a permanent deal, signing a three-year contract. Last season, he was the club’s top scorer, hitting 18 in all competitions.

And he has carried that form into the current campaign. His tally of 12 Championship goals makes him the division’s second-top scorer, two behind Middlesbrough’s Chuba Akpom.

Additionally, the 24-year-old is a regular on the international stage. He has featured 11 times for Sweden, scoring twice.

Coventry face a battle in the next two days to keep hold of their star man, with Everton reportedly interested. According to journalist Alan Nixon, the second-tier side have set their asking price at £25 million.

It’s been a difficult season for the Toffees. From their last 14 outings in all competitions, they have won just one and lost 11, scoring ten while conceding 28. This has left them in 19th place in the Premier League.

The Merseyside club are in desperate need of reinforcements up front, having failed to adequately replace Richarlison last summer.

They are the league’s second-lowest scorers, ahead of only Wolverhampton Wanderers. And, with joint-top marksman Anthony Gordon leaving for Newcastle United, things could get worse.

Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma was close to joining on a short-term loan deal. However, Tottenham Hotspur hijacked the transfer at the last minute. It is believed that they have since turned their attention to Rennes’ Kamaldeen Sulemana.

Following Frank Lampard’s departure, Sean Dyche has been appointed at Goodison Park.

The former Burnley boss has a tough start to life at his new club, beginning with a home clash against league leaders Arsenal before an away fixture against local rivals Liverpool.
