The Sky Blues are reportedly lining up a move for Carl Rushworth as his move to Rangers has fallen through.
Coventry City are believed to be showing “strong interest” in Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth this summer.
The Sky Blues are keen to swoop in for the 24-year-old given his proposed move to Scottish giants Rangers fell through, with Brighton not willing to sanction a deal.
As per a tweet from journalist Alex Crook, Belgian champions Union Saint Gilloise have made an offer, while Coventry are following developments and may pounce for his signature later into the window.
Frank Lampard’s outfit have made two additions so far this summer after their play-off heartache to Sunderland, recruiting Miguel Angel Brau from Granada on a free transfer, while Kaine Kesler-Hayden bolsters their backline, arriving from Aston Villa.
Now it appears that Coventry are in the market for a new shot-stopper, with Coventry eager to make the CBS Arena Rushworth’s new home.
As per journalist Alex Crook, Coventry City are believed to be very keen over a move for goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.
Rushworth was set to make a move to Ibrox with Rangers, but it has been called off due to a reluctance from Brighton to sanction an exit.
Belgian Pro League winners Union Saint Gilloise have reportedly made an offer, although the player is not keen on a move there, while Crook has detailed the Sky Blues are showing strong interest in securing his services.
It has not been revealed whether this would be a permanent or loan switch, as Rushworth has already had two loan spells away from the Amex Stadium to the Championship, featuring for Swansea City and Hull City.
Coventry City have a healthy set of goalkeeping options at the moment, with Oliver Dovin, Ben Wilson and Bradley Collins battling it out for a starting spot.
However, given Wilson’s lengthy knee ligament injury last season, the club probably feels the need to not have that burden and be fully stocked if something like that arises again.
Whether Rushworth would be keen on a move given the competition remains to be seen, but his impressive loan spell at Swansea City is an indication that he can be a quality keeper in between the sticks at second tier level.
An addition like this could also mean that Coventry are willing to part ways with at least one of their current trio of shot-stoppers.
