Norway international Leo Ostigard joined Coventry City on loan from Premier League outfit Brighton in August 2020, and spent the 2020/21 Championship season with the Sky Blues.

Mark Robins' side brought Ostigard to the club in an effort to maintain their second tier status, after winning the League One title in 2020.

The Norwegian was superb for the Sky Blues, making 39 appearances and 35 starts as he helped to guide Robins' men to a 16th-place finish - 12 points clear of the relegation zone.

The central defender was a major contributing factor as to why Robins' men were able to comfortably avoid relegation, as he was a solid asset in the Sky Blues' backline.

According to FotMob, Ostigard completed 66.7% of the tackles he completed during the 2020/21 campaign, while he also won an impressive 61.3% of duels, and 66.4% of the aerial duels he faced.

Furthermore, the ace scored two goals and contributed two assists to the Sky Blues' impressively comfortable lower mid-table finish, as Robins' men comfortably staved off the threat of relegation.

The Coventry faithful saw a thoroughly impressive defender, and will not be surprised to see that the ace went on to win the 2023 Serie A title with Napoli, who also reached last season's Champions League quarter-finals.

On the other hand, Stoke City supporters may be more surprised at how Ostigard's impressive career progressed, as his former Brighton cut his 2021/22 loan spell at the Potters short after he fell down the pecking order in Staffordshire.

After returning to the Amex Stadium in January 2022, Ostigard would go on to spend the remainder of the 2021/22 season on loan at Serie A outfit Genoa.

Genoa would suffer relegation to Serie B at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, but the Norwegian defender did enough to earn a permanent move from the Seagulls to Napoli ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Ostigard played a role in Napoli's historic 2022/23 triumph

Napoli claimed their first Scudetto since 1990 in 202 and the former Sky Blues man played his part in the success, as he made seven Serie A appearances, as well as three Champions League and one Coppa Italia appearance.

The defender also scored in the Champions League, exemplifying his ability to produce the goods for his club at the pinnacle of European club football.

Despite a limited number of Serie A appearances, Ostigard showed his defensive solidity in 2022/23 as he won 80.9% of duels and 81.1% of aerial duels he faced (FotMob).

During the 2023/24 campaign, the Norway international has made more than double the number of Serie A appearances as he did last season as he continues to enjoy his time in Naples.

That won't be a surprise to the Sky Blues faithful given his success with Coventry. They'll be proud to see their former loan star consistently playing for one of the top clubs in European football, while he also completed the full 90 minutes for Norway in two international friendlies back in March.

Napoli are not in the title run-in this season, but Sky Blues fans will be eager to see their man win more silverware with the Italian outfit, and will not be surprised by his trophy-winning exploits last campaign.
