Callum O'Hare extends: Mark Robins will be on cloud nine if these things happen at Coventry City

Coventry City may not have achieved their primary aim for the 2023/24 Championship campaign, as they failed to reach the play-offs, but Sky Blues supporters still experienced a memorable campaign as their club made a historic run to the FA Cup semi-finals.

Under Mark Robins' management, the Sky Blues are in safe hands, and after reaching the 2023 play-off final, the club will look to land a 2024/25 top-six spot.

Another busy summer is expected and here are the scenarios Robins will be hoping for in order to pursue next season's play-offs.

Luis Binks signs

The defender on loan from Bologna was in and out of the Sky Blues' team during the 2023/24 season, making 18 appearances and 15 starts in the Championship, but at 22 years old he is still a developing player.

Following the departure of club stalwart Kyle McFadzean, who joined Blackburn Rovers in January, the Sky Blues should look to retain the services of Luis Binks.

The former England youth international's parent club have secured Champions League football, which demonstrates the level they are operating at, so he may find first-team opportunities hard to come by.

Fellow centre-backs Riccardo Calfiori, Jhon Lucumi and Sam Beukema have all made over 25 Serie A appearances this season, so Binks may not be able to land a spot in Thiago Motta's starting XI.

Robins will be pleased if his club can sign Binks once more, either permanently or on a renewed loan deal, as the Sky Blues require strength in depth at the back after McFadzean's exit. He's dropped hints about returning for the centre-back already.

Callum O'Hare extends contract

After returning from a lengthy ACL injury, back in October, Callum O'Hare once again proved his worth in Coventry colours this campaign, scoring six goals and producing three assists in 31 league appearances and just 18 starts.

The Sky Blues faithful will have been particularly fond of the goal he scored against Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final, as well as the brace he bagged during a victory over rivals Leicester back in January.

The attacking midfielder is out of contract this summer after signing a two-year deal back in 2022, and reportedly snubbed a contract offer to extend his stay with the Sky Blues amid links to the Premier League.

However, the club confirmed that O'Hare's current deal expires at the end of June, so there is still time for the ace to agree fresh terms, and Robins would be delighted to retain his star man.

Ben Sheaf contract extension

Ben Sheaf was a class act for the Sky Blues throughout the 2023/24 campaign and dictated the tempo of games for Robins' men with an impressive pass accuracy of 85.3%, according to FotMob.

Sheaf is under contract with his current club until 2026 but his club will be eager for him to renew his contract amid transfer interest from Luton Town, Ipswich Town and Fulham.

The 26-year-old Arsenal academy product, who initially joined the Sky Blues on loan from the Gunners in 2020, has been with his current club since their first season back in the Championship, and played the full 120 minutes during both the 2023 play-off final and the 2024 FA Cup semi-final for his club, while Robins will not want their journey together to end just yet.

A Sheaf contract extension would help stave off top-flight transfer interest, and Robins will no doubt feel that the midfielder is a player who can heavily contribute towards a positive 2024/25 season.

The summer transfer window is certain to provide plenty of twists and turns, and the Sky Blues are no exception to that, but fresh contracts for both O'Hare and Sheaf, as well as a new deal for Binks would put the foundations in place for Robins to steer his side towards a top-six battle next campaign.
