Mark Robins has provided an injury update on Coventry City trio Milan van Ewijk, Kasey Palmer and Haji Wright.

All three came away from Tuesday’s defeat to Southampton as a potential injury concern going into their upcoming clash with Birmingham City.

The Sky Blues suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss against the Saints, which put a dent in their top six hopes.

Van Ewijk was substituted in that defeat following an incident with Gavin Bazunu, which raised concerns over his potential fitness.

Wright and Palmer also complained of tightness after the game, which put into doubt their availability for the trip to St. Andrew’s.

Robins has provided positive news for Coventry supporters, suggesting that there are no further injury concerns for his team going into the weekend.

He also confirmed that forward Matty Godden has returned to the squad, but that Jamie Allen remains absent.

“Everyone is OK and we’re as we were,” said Robins, via Coventry Live.

“We’ll review things today but I don’t anticipate any change.

“Matty is back training and so will be available this weekend.

“There’s no change with Jamie, however, so he won’t be involved.”

Godden missed the last three fixtures due to suffering a calf issue, which meant he was unavailable for defeats to Southampton and Cardiff City, as well as the victory over Leeds United.

The 32-year-old has been a consistent presence in the side this season, contributing six goals from 32 league appearances.

Meanwhile, Allen has been absent since February, having suffered a fractured cheekbone in their FA Cup fourth round replay win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Despite the continued absence of Allen, this will come as a positive development overall for the Sky Blues as they look to compete for a play-off place.

Coventry City league position

Coventry travel to Birmingham with the team sitting seventh in the Championship table, five points adrift of the top six.

Robins’ side holds a game in hand, but will need Norwich City or West Brom to drop points in order to leapfrog them in the standings.

With five games to go, time is running out for the club to earn a second consecutive play-off qualification.

Coventry will also be keen to keep players fit ahead of this month’s FA Cup semi-final clash against Manchester United on 21 April.

Victory at Wembley Stadium will earn the club only its second appearance in the final of the famous cup competition.

Positive injury news for Coventry

Wright, van Ewijk and Palmer are all important members of the squad, so their availability will be key for the run-in.

The threat of all three being injured was a real concern for the club at such a crucial stage of the season, so fans will be thankful it was just a minor scare and nothing more.

Godden’s return will also be a positive, as he has been missed in the last three games.

He has proven himself as still a very valuable member of the team’s attacking options, so can play a role in helping the club have a successful end to the campaign.
