Frank Lampard’s outfit will look to bounce back from play-off heartbreak to put up a strong promotion bid next season.

However, they may have to do so without the 23-year-old’s services.

Luis Binks’ Coventry City departure imminent

Binks only signed for the Sky Blues permanently in 2024 but is already set to leave the club just one year later.

According to Tipsbladet, the young centre-back is on the verge of joining Brøndby, with just a medical and contract formalities left to complete.

He is viewed as a replacement to Jacob Rasmussen by the Danish outfit, who are parting ways with €3 million to secure the defender’s signature.

Binks had a contract with Coventry City running until 2028, but after his role in the side became less apparent last season, it looks like he won’t come close to completing that.

Lampard seemed to favour the likes of Liam Kitching and Bobby Thomas at the back, which meant that Binks was seen as expendable.

The 23-year-old came through Tottenham’s academy system before enjoying stints at CF Montreal, Bologna and Como, eventually leading to his initial loan spell with Coventry City.

Coventry City real winners from Luis Binks sale

Some Sky Blues supporters will be disappointed to hear that Binks will no longer be a defensive option for the club, with some citing his technical ability as one of their backline’s key strengths.

However, Lampard clearly didn’t view the centre-back as a regular starter. Binks began just two of Coventry’s final 16 matches in the 2024/25 campaign, which opened up the doors for an exit.

Therefore, raking in €3 million for a player who wasn’t guaranteed to play a lot of minutes is brilliant business for the Sky Blues.

Coventry spent €2 million to sign Binks permanently last summer, which means that this sale also represents clear profit for the club.

Losing a young talent is never ideal for any side, but potential isn’t always guaranteed to be realised, which means that when the opportunity presents itself to cash in, it isn’t unwise to take it.

Lampard and Co. can now reinvest some of that capital into targets that they believe will raise the overall level of the squad and give them the best chance of pushing for promotion once more next term.
