AC Milan are currently staring down the barrel of a battle just to get into the Champions League places, and Verona could be ‘fatal’ for Paulo Fonseca.
According to this morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via SpazioMilan), there is the possibility that Fonseca could be sacked if Milan do not get a positive result at the Stadio Bentegodi against Verona tonight.
If the Rossoneri were to fail to win, the management would have to ask serious questions about his work. At the moment, Milan are in eighth place with only 23 points amassed and Atalanta are first with 37 points, albeit with a game in hand.
Who would come in his place? Among Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s ideas could be two coaches that he has known very well and at different moments in his career. The first is Roberto Mancini, who he had when he was at Inter.
The second option is Max Allegri, a coach who would return to Milan after winning the 18th Scudetto in 2010-11. However, Maurizio Sarri’s name seems the most possible for Milan and the reason is linked to his salary.
The former Napoli and Chelsea coach could settle for a lower figure than what Allegri could earn, which must be considered given that the club would have to keep paying Fonseca’s current salary unless a mutual termination was agreed.
