Corinthians set for summer shake-up as big names face exit

According to UOL, Corinthians’ squad remains in flux as the club weighs both incoming and outgoing moves ahead of the upcoming Brasileiro transfer window. Fourteen players in the current squad have not yet reached the seven-appearance threshold in the league, leaving them eligible for potential departures or loans elsewhere within Brazil.

Among the notable cases is Alex Santana, who, having played in only three Brasileiro matches for Corinthians this season, was sent on loan to Grêmio until the end of 2024. Most of the players on the under-seven-games list are considered rotational or reserve options, but it includes some names of greater significance. Midfielder Rodrigo Garro and centre-back Gustavo Henrique—both typically in the first-team conversation—appear on the list, primarily due to injury setbacks. Garro has seen the pitch just twice, hampered by patellar tendinopathy in his right knee, while Gustavo Henrique featured in three matches before requiring hernia surgery.

Two players are on the verge of ineligibility for Brazilian transfers after six league appearances: Igor Coronado and Félix Torres. Coronado’s situation has generated attention after he was left out of the squad for the recent draw against Grêmio. Manager Dorival Júnior described this as a tactical decision, but there is wider context. With only one more appearance before reaching the limit, Coronado’s lack of game time is notable, especially amid reported dissatisfaction with his role and outstanding financial issues over signing-on fees. According to UOL, Coronado has asked through his representatives for a negotiated termination of his contract.

Corinthians’ management, currently under interim leadership from Osmar Stabile, faces significant financial restrictions. With club debts now above R$2.5 billion, there is little appetite for major investments. The club plans to focus on targeted reinforcements—especially players available on free transfers or loans—while seeking to reduce the wage bill. Less-utilized squad members, including Léo Mana, Ryan, and Hugo, may be allowed to leave should offers materialize, as the priorities are budgetary control and squad streamlining.

While the market strategy is about caution and practicality, there is an openness to high-profile sales if a compelling offer is received for a top player. Rodrigo Garro and Yuri Alberto are seen as the squad’s most valuable assets, but young midfielder Breno Bidon—closely watched by European clubs—could also attract proposals in the mid-year window.

Corinthians approach July’s transfer window with both necessity and uncertainty: the need for fresh faces is balanced against growing financial pressures and a delicate balancing act to maintain on-field competitiveness and fiscal responsibility.
