Corinthians’ Neo Química Arena paid its respects to Diogo Jota and André Silva on Thursday, following their deaths in a car accident in Zamora, Spain, according to UOL. The two Portuguese brothers, both professional footballers, died after their car left the road with a punctured tyre and caught fire around 12:30 a.m. local time. Emergency services arrived to find both men had lost their lives in the fire.

The stadium honored the brothers by displaying their images on the arena’s big screens during the afternoon. On social media, the club expressed condolences, stating: “We send positive energy to the family and friends in this time of mourning.” The gesture was shared by the official account of Neo Química Arena and widely echoed by fans.

Diogo Jota, aged 28, was a forward recently crowned Premier League and Nations League champion with Liverpool and the Portuguese national team. He leaves behind three children and his wife, whom he married just weeks before the accident. André Silva, his brother, was playing for Penafiel in Portugal’s second division.

Both players were well regarded in the Portuguese football community, and news of their deaths was met with tributes from former clubs and teammates. Jota’s career included stints at prominent clubs and regular national team duty, while Silva was building his own reputation in Portuguese domestic football.

Corinthians’ tribute reflects the wider football world’s response as clubs and supporters continue to express support for the Jota family and acknowledge the loss of two professionals whose impact extended across leagues and borders.
