While the match ended scoreless, with both sides acting quite defensive, the two teams still managed to combine for 32 shots, with Flamengo owning a 19-13 advantage.

Cassio would make six saves while Santos earned himself a three-save clean sheet.

Gabigol had one of the game’s best chances in the first minute of the contest as he hit a sizzling shot that missed hitting the post by a matter of inches.

Yuri Alberto had a nice shot of his own just before the end of the first half that Santos had to helplessly watch just miss finding the bottom corner.

Mid-way through the second half, David Luiz had arguably the most dangerous opportunity of the match, smashing a long-range effort into the crossbar from roughly 35 yards out.

Speaking immediately after the match, David Luiz said: “It’s difficult, we tried anyway (to score the first goal).

“It was typical of a final, a defensive game but at the same time it was back and forth. We played a mature, conscious game that we would have appreciated before the match.

“We could have had a little more attacking volume, but we have to give credit to Corinthians.

“Nothing is over, even if one of the teams had won, it wouldn’t be over. Now it’s time to prepare well for next week.”

The two sides will decide who wins the trophy next Wednesday at the Maracanã.
