Burns featured 37 times in League One for Stevenage last season, and also made appearances in the Emirates FA Cup, EFL Trophy and Carabao Cup during his time at the Hertfordshire club.

The London-born defender has previously featured for England’s Under-20s, and made his Manchester City first-team debut in 2021 against Wycombe Wanders in the League Cup at the Etihad Stadium.

Burns started the 6-1 victory in September 2021, and has also featured for the Blues’ EDS across the Premier League 2, UEFA Youth League and EFL trophy.

The defender, who has also previously spent time on loan at Swansea City, has officially completed a move to fellow Championship side Hull City, and here is everything you need to know about the transfer!

What are the terms of the Finley Burns to Hull City transfer?

The 21-year-old will spend the 2024/25 campaign on a season-long loan at the MKM Stadium, with the deal including no option for Hull City to make the deal permanent, according to Fabrizio Romano.

What have Manchester City said about the transfer?

A Manchester City statement said: “Finley Burns has joined Championship side Hull City on a season-long loan deal. The defender will spend the 2024/25 campaign with the Tigers, who finished seventh in the Championship last year.

“Everyone at Manchester City would like to wish Finley the best of luck on his loan move to Hull City.”

What has Finley Burns said upon joining Hull City?

Speaking to Hull City’s official website, Burns said: “I can’t wait. I spoke to the manager and we discussed what he wanted from me. It sounded great in what I can learn from him, not only footballing-wise but my understanding of the tactical side.

“I’ve learned a lot from when I was at Swansea and going away to League One and hopefully I can show that this season. Stevenage was different to what I was used to and probably what I needed. I played a different position, which helped me grow as a player. Understanding different roles is important.

“I’m versatile. Last year, I started as a centre-back and moved into midfield. I’ll do what’s asked of me and try to help the team.

“I spoke to Liam Delap, asked him a few questions about the club and he only had good things to say, which helped me make a decision on what I wanted to do, along with speaking to the manager.

“Tim’s style is different but it’s something I’m really excited to learn. I can’t wait to see all the fans on Saturday and have a good go this season.”

How have Hull City reacted to the transfer deal?

A Hull City statement said: “Hull City are delighted to announce the signing of young central defender Finley Burns on a season-long loan from Premier League champions Manchester City.

“The 21-year-old was named Stevenage’s Young Player of the Year while on loan last season after helping keep 17 clean sheets in 43 appearances, contributing to League One’s fourth-tightest defence.”

We wish Finley Burns all the very best on his season-long loan move to Hull City for the forthcoming season!
