Erling Haaland’s 80th-minute strike saw Norway beat Austria 2-1 to pick up their first Nations League win of the new season.

The prolific City striker extended his form in front of goal to the international stage on Monday evening in what was a close encounter with their League B Group 3 opponents.

Norway took an early lead after Felix Myhre placed his shot into the bottom right corner on 9 minutes.

But Marcel Sabitzer drew Austria level eight minutes before the interval.

Norway continued to press for a late, decisive goal with Austria beginning to tire in the closing stages.

And up stepped Haaland and his left-footed shot made the Austria net bulge to the delight of the home crowd.

The three points means Norway move into second of their group.

And City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku were also on the international stage on Monday evening.

They played out a tough clash as Belgium fell to a 2-0 defeat in their Nations League clash with France.

After a 3-1 win over Israel in the new season of Nations League, captain De Bruyne was looking to lead his national team to back-to-back victories in Group 2.

But despite enjoying more of the ball it was their opponents, France, who were more clinical in front of goal.

A Randal Kolo Muani goal on the brink of the half-hour mark put the hosts ahead.

A second half strike from Ousmane Dembele doubled France’s advantage despite De Bruyne and Doku’s best efforts to find a goal for Belgium with both having chances of their own.

Belgium sit third in League A Group 2 with Italy leading the charge.
