Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has addressed the media ahead of Sunday’s trip across London to face Chelsea.

On making more signings

“I know I can’t have everything quickly but it would be foolish to ask for a lot of players and spend a lot of money. We’re doing the right things with common sense, not to spend the money on many players.”

On injuries

“There is a little problem with Clément Lenglet. I don’t think he’s available for the game against Chelsea. He had a little problem. Oliver Skipp, I think will be missing for a couple of weeks.

[With Lenglet] a little problem of fatigue. It is muscle tiredness, nothing serious but a precaution. It wouldn’t be good to take a stupid risk. He’s had a training session apart but I think that will be good for him.”

On players departing

Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks and Sergio Reguilón have been linked with moves

“We are talking about good players and in January, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso went out on loan. Every season there are different targets and this season there is the World Cup. Players ask to play more regularly and to play games. Someone can push to go away and try to play in a way more regular.”

On attacking options

“I’m very happy with our squad because compared to last season we improved, with Richy but we lost [Steven] Bergwijn. [Bryan] Gil went on loan but now he’s in the squad of 20 players. I think in midfield we improved with [Yves] Bissouma and with Winks and then with Lenglet behind.

“We signed players with common sense, to find players with right characteristics, to help us have the quality. To have reliable players, players ready to have a good impact.

On being less reliant on Kane and Son

“You know very well that for us Harry and Sonny are vital. Don’t forget that Sonny scored 23 goals last season and was top scorer in the league and Harry scored 17. These are two important players but at the same time we need to find different solutions.

“The way we attack gives us different solution. A team with ambition needs many solutions to score goals. At the same time we have to be sure we are solid defensively.”
