Huddersfield Town are chasing the signature of free agent Connor Mahoney, according to Alan Nixon.

The versatile attacker previously played for Millwall, having also competed for Birmingham City, Barnsley and Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.

Last season, the Englishman only featured eight times for Gary Rowett’s side, starting just once in the league.

Here we weigh up whether or not a move for the winger would be a good decision by the Terriers…

Is it a good potential move?

Given that he is available as a free agent, there is very little downside to this deal for either party.

Huddersfield will gladly take in an extra attacking option to strengthen their squad.

Mahoney will also be glad to find a top Championship club is still interested in his services after a difficult time with Millwall.

While the signing won’t be blowing away many of Huddersfield’s rivals, this could still be a very solid addition to their first team squad.

Would he start?

It is unlikely that he would start immediately, but if he can prove himself to Carlos Corberan then there is no doubt that he could earn his way into the team.

He has struggled for game time since moving to the Lions, playing just 22 league games across the last two seasons.

But a fresh start could be just what he needs to get his career back on track, and Huddersfield could be an ideal destination.

The team is in need of some fresh attacking players, so Mahoney coming in on a free could be just what the team needs to keep things competitive for places.

What does he offer?

Mahoney is very versatile and can compete on either wing, which could be very important for his probable role as squad player.

That allows him to be plugged into the side if any injury concerns crop up, or to come off the bench in many different scenarios which gives Corberan plenty of options.

Set pieces are also very important to the Terriers, and Mahoney has a great dead ball delivery which could make him a potent weapon when the team are chasing a goal or two.
