Connor Barron delay goes on as Rangers still await verdict

As alluded to earlier, Rangers’ wait to learn what summer signing Connor Barron will set the club back goes on, after the SPFL still had not set a date for the tribunal to thrash the details out.

Aberdeen rejected Rangers’ offer, said to be around £400,000, for the midfielder, believing he was worth considerably more, and given their admittedly excellent trading model in recent years, the Dons would hope for something closer to £2M if they can manage it.

But it’s down to an independent tribunal to go through the paperwork and offer a final verdict, and that is taking a long time to materialise.

The SPFL have agreed to hold such an ‘inquest’ but the scheduling seems to be a bit of a low priority for such a thing, and life is going on as normal in the world of Scottish football otherwise.

It is clear Barron is more than a £400,000 player, which Rangers tried to get away with via pure development compensation, and while the law can accept that as the sum on a logistic basis, it’s unlikely the tribunal will agree that his worth is that low.

The idea for this ‘law’ is that the selling club agrees to the compensation and that is that, but Aberdeen firmly believe they should be securing closer to £2M for this player, and the tribunal will take that into account.

Verdict?

We generally don’t predict too much on Ibrox Noise, we have no crystal ball, but the Dons would be justified in a tribunal awarding them between £500,000-£1M or so for the player. He is clearly a great talent and an asset player, in time.

We don’t think the tribunal will go anywhere near what Aberdeen probably want.

That said, the thing has to take place first and we have no idea when that will be.
