Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has offered some praise to a Chelsea transfer target who completely had his team on strings last night.
Ipswich Town absolutely shocked Chelsea by beating them 2-0 at home in the Premier League last night in a result that not one person would have expected.
Chelsea were terrible, but Ipswich just showed that they were more resilient than The Blues and were more up for the battle. They simply had more hunger to be able to fight for 90 minutes, even if Chelsea were very bad too.
But it was striker Liam Delap who made the biggest difference, earning and scoring a dubious penalty, and then setting up former Chelsea player Omari Hutchinson to score the second goal.
Chelsea’s defenders, and even Moises Caicedo, just could not handle Delap last night. They had no answers, and he was absolutely bullying them all. He literally had them all on strings, they played in total fear of him.
Delap is some player
The former Manchester City youngster was on the receiving end of some praise from Maresca before the game, and he took some more from him after the game too.
Maresca knows the Chelsea transfer target very well having worked with him in the City academy not so long ago. I think it’s pretty obvious that the Italian coach would absolutely love to add Delap to his squad if they can pull it off sometime in the future.
Maresca was asked after the game in words picked up by Football London, how good was Liam Delap?
He said:
“This is Liam. I know Liam from some time ago. Probably in some moments we can defend a bit better. But congratulations to him and to them.”
He’s right on our defending also, it was tragic.
