Colantuono: ‘Salernitana disappointed not to have beaten Juventus’ | OneFootball

Salernitana coach Stefano Colantuono insists that he and his players are disappointed not to have come away with all three points after Sunday’s away match against Juventus in Serie A, and feels like his side would have won had they had a fully fit and available squad at their disposal.

For over an hour, the Granata looked as though they could go on to secure their first ever away win against Juventus. They have only ever beaten the Bianconeri once, which came in the 1998/99 season.

It was Niccolo Pierozzi who put Salernitana ahead on Sunday, applying the finishing touches on a routine free-kick into the area, which Wojciech Szczesny was unable to prevent crossing the line.

It took Juventus until the 91st minute to come up with an equaliser, which came courtesy of captain on the day Adrien Rabiot. Salernitana, however, had the chance to snatch all three points back with the final kick of the match, only for Toma Basic to send his effort over the crossbar.

“We’re disappointed not to have won,” Colantuono said during his post-match debrief with DAZN.

“We suffered in the second half, but I must say that the players who were available had an amazing game.

“We were missing players like Bradaric, Candreva, Gyomber, Ochoa, Maggiore and plenty of others today. They could have made a contribution, but I have to applaud the boys.

“The first half was good and we got off to a brilliant start, and then came close to a dramatic victory just a few seconds away from the end. It’s not a tragedy.”
