Alexis Saelemaekers has made the first move regarding his future ahead of the summer by insisting that he feels happy at AS Roma.
Saelemaekers had a positive preseason with Milan and the head coach Paulo Fonseca even spoke of a desire to keep him, yet he was sent on a season-long dry loan to Roma with Tammy Abraham coming the other way.
With six goals and four assists to his name for the Giallorossi in 23 games across all competitions, it would be fair to say that he is excelling in a new wing-back role under the head coach Claudio Ranieri.
As Calciomercato.com report, the Belgian did an interview with Idealista in which he was asked about how he is finding life at Roma.
“Yes, I’m happy at Roma. I found an environment that welcomed me with great affection and fans who supported me right away. This was very important for me,” he said.
“Buying a house? I haven’t thought about it in depth yet, I’ve only been here a few months, I’m definitely interested in this market and I’m making some assessments.”

There was a sort of verbal agreement between Roma and Milan on a valuation of €8-10m during the summer window, but the difficulties encountered in finding the right balance (also on Abraham’s value) led the two clubs to close both operations on a simple loan.
During a January meeting to discuss the future of the former Anderlecht man, CEO Giorgio Furlani made a request for over €25m to sell Saelemaekers permanently, something which has Roma feeling ‘nervous’.
However, the capital club have not given up and intends to intensify contacts in the coming days to find an agreement. Much will depend on Saelemaekers’ will but the feeling is that an agreement can be found halfway, at around €20m.
