Jonathan David remains on AC Milan’s list of targets in view of the summer transfer window but Napoli are trying to beat the competition, a report claims.

According to a report from Calciomercato.com, a significant meeting took place the other day between the Napoli management and the agents of David. The striker’s entourage said yes to Napoli’s offer: a salary of €3m net per season with a five-year contract (therefore, until 2029).

An agreement remains to be found with Lille for which there is a distance of €10m: €35m is the offer that the Partenopei have put forward while the request is around €45m from the Ligue 1 club.

Napoli’s move has the main objective of getting ahead of the Premier League clubs but also Milan who have taken their time to evaluate David while waiting to define the name of their new head coach.

An added interesting factor is that the Rossoneri are also evaluating Paulo Fonseca as Pioli’s potential replacement, who has a special relationship with David that he has built during his time at Lille.

The possible appointment of the Portuguese coach could lead Geoffrey Moncada to turn to the 23-year-old as the main target, especially given the positive relations with Lille.

At present, however, Napoli have taken the most concrete steps to try and sign David, knowing that they will almost certainly have to replace Victor Osimhen.
