With world football on pause due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many clubs are focused on their business dealings next season.

This is especially true in Liga MX, which will undergo rule changes where clubs will have to bring in more Mexican players.

“We have the circumstance that we will have to reduce our number of foreign players next season,” América manager Miguel Herrera said.

“Today we have 12, but unfortunately, we have never had twelve available. Next season, we already have to have 11 though we can only have nine on our roster.”

With the reputation of being one of Mexico’s giant clubs, América will be going after the top Mexican players available in world football and PSV’s Erick Gutiérrez is on the top of their list.

However, Gutiérrez will not cheap. Though the 19-time international has only played 69 league minutes in 2020, the player, who joined from Pachuca for €6m two summers ago, still has three years remaining on his contract.

It also could be difficult for América to land Gutiérrez as he’s still just 24 years old and probably still has huge aspirations to be successful in Europe.
