Clement’s Rangers Goalkeeping Dilemma As One Talent Still Wants Out

As every Rangers fan knows right now, the summer transfer rumour mill is in full flow and manager Philippe Clement has already overseen a number of departures as players come to a natural end to their existing contracts, so we are understandably being linked with a complete plethora of new arrivals. We have already seen two arrivals in the shape of a second loan spell for Oscar Cortes following his own injury issues last season, and of course, a slightly more unknown Jefte, but given our 50 year old Belgian gaffers words, Ibrox regulars can certainly be expecting maybe another four or five arrivals this summer, especially in light of those who have already departed – or will official leave at the beginning of next month. With Leon Balogun already securing himself another 12 month deal and a lot of fans looking at Betting for EURO 2024, back up goalkeeper Robby McCrorie has found himself in the headlines in the last few days, and it is being claimed that he has now again officially knocked back our latest contract extension offer, as having played second fiddle to both Allan McGregor, and more recently Jack Butland, since he broke through into first team duties at the club – simply put, the 26 year old is adamant he wants a move so he can enjoy far greater game time, and it is suggested that Aberdeen are now sniffing around him.It has long been known that game time had become a growing issue for the player, and most certainly that he has felt that previous manager promises about his involvement have regularly been broken, and with his loyalty not being rewarded he is doubling down on his preferred decision which is to leave. A transfer request has been on the table since January, and despite our latest offer – a long term deal with improved terms – being tabled, he is clearly sticking to his guns.Aberdeen are one of a number of clubs who have long been linked as having a potential tentative interest in him when it comes to the rumour mill, so they are an easy go to right now as he enters the final 12 months of his own contract deal, so the only real question to be answered right now is does Clement feel that he can win McCrorie over during the weeks that we will spend in pre season, by giving him the opportunities that make him feel valued.Or do we simply cash in very quickly for the highest return that we can get, as there will certainly be fans out there who will not be able to accept the transfer request and his desire to leave – as ultimately, some goalkeepers will always be second choice, but that is the price you pay for being at a big club with the rewards that brings. If McCrorie wants more game time, give it to him, whilst some will not understand his position, plenty of others will admire the honesty and wish him well, as he quite clearly could well have gained far greater game time with us in Cup competitions alone since he first qualified through as an Academy graduate. He has given his service and been loyal, and wants to end his career on a high – the fact we are trying so hard to keep him probably shows why he should be playing, why he has been let down and former managers have failed. Clement may not get the chance to begin rectifying that in a way that makes a telling difference, but it does not fall on his head if the 26 year old ultimately moves on.Or we cash in on Jack Butland, avoid the league and Cup appearance debate, and make McCrorie No 1.Interesting conundrum is it not?
