Claudio Gomes isn't giving up on his career with Manchester City.
When Rodri pulled up in the FA Cup game at Swansea, the manager called for the 20-year-old to make his first appearance for the Blues in 27 months.
"It's exciting because it is a lot of responsibility. You need to be focused all the time, you need to try to be good all the time and it is a good challenge," he told the Manchester Evening News.
"If you catch this target you can be one of the best midfielders and we know to be a Man City player you need to be good all the time because the level is so high. You just need to improve and work hard and see the players in front of you like Rodri and Fernandinho and Gundogan, to look how good they are all the time despite how difficult that is.
"I just have to keep going like this, training and showing to everyone that I need to be a Man City player. I need to work five or six times more harder than everyone and just be ready because we never know if one day they will need me for games.
"My target is to be a Man City player. I will keep going, working hard. We can't say my chance is gone - it is not possible in football because we don't know what will happen in the future.
"Now I am in Manchester, I am happy, I am working hard in Manchester all the time in training and maybe the opportunities will come soon or next season. I don't know but I believe in my project at Man City."
