Manchester City’s summer could yet take another twist, with Marc Guehi emerging as a possible target for Pep Guardiola. The Crystal Palace defender, who has just a year left on his contract, is being monitored closely as City consider reshaping their defensive options.
Interest in Guehi is not new. Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona have all tracked the 25-year-old England international, who has steadily built a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most reliable centre-backs. His pace, composure on the ball and consistency make him an appealing option for clubs seeking defensive reinforcement at the highest level.
City’s pursuit of Guehi is understood to hinge on potential departures. Both Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake are attracting attention from elsewhere, with Galatasaray considering a move for Akanji and Everton targeting Ake. Should both deals progress before the transfer window closes, it would leave Guardiola with fewer defensive options than he is comfortable with.
That scenario could push City towards a formal move for Guehi, with figures around £35 million being cited. The club are conscious of maintaining balance within their squad, but Guardiola is also keen to ensure that any exits are offset by quality additions.

If City do step up their interest, they will not be alone. Liverpool remain in the market for defensive reinforcements, while Tottenham see Guehi as a player who fits their long-term project. Barcelona, too, are monitoring the situation, although their financial constraints could complicate matters.
Newcastle United had also considered Guehi before turning their attention to Malick Thiaw, who joined from AC Milan in a £35m deal earlier this month. That move has narrowed the field, but it has not diminished the level of competition City would face should they advance.
Guardiola has spoken frequently about the need for evolution within his squad, and Guehi is viewed as a defender capable of contributing over several seasons. At 25, he has already gained international recognition and significant Premier League experience, while still offering room to develop further under elite coaching.
For City, the next week could prove decisive. Should Akanji and Ake remain, Guehi may not be pursued with urgency. But if departures are sanctioned, Guardiola’s plans could accelerate, setting up another contest with their closest rivals for one of England’s most promising defenders.
