Christopher Vivell has already started work as Manchester United’s director of global talent | OneFootball

Christopher Vivell has already started to execute his duties at Manchester United following his appointment as the club’s director of global talent.

A few days ago, reliable journalist David Ornstein revealed that United were working on bringing in Vivell – described as a transfer guru – on a short-term basis to contribute his skills and expertise in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano subsequently confirmed that United had signed for the Red Devils.

The Athletic have now revealed that Vivell has already started work at Old Trafford as he seeks to hit the ground running.

The newspaper states, “Vivell, 37, officially started his role on Thursday (July 4) and will assist United by lending his expertise around player recruitment and talent ID.”

“Although Vivell’s appointment is a temporary one, there is a possibility that he becomes a full-time employee at the club.”

“Vivell roles will include recommending the best available talent for the men’s first-team squad which fits with the game model, while identifying emerging talents who will fit into the club’s strategy.”

It’s understood that Vivell will report to new United sporting director Dan Ashworth.

Vivell started as a video analyst and scout with Hoffenheim before he made the jump to RB Leipzig. At Leipzig, he worked as head of scouting before being promoted to technical director.

The 37-year-old then joined Premier League rivals Chelsea as technical director in December 2022 before leaving Stamford Bridge in July 2023.

The Manchester Evening News have clarified how United’s new football structure will operate. As mentioned, Vivell will answer to Ashworth, who will be in charge of all football affairs concerning the men, women and academy teams. The former Newcastle chief will also oversee all performance and operational areas. Ashworth will report to incoming CEO Omar Berrada.

United’s technical director, Jason Wilcox – who made the switch to United from Southampton – will also report to Ashworth. Wilcox’s main responsibilities will revolve around working with Ten Hag and the Dutchman’s coaching staff to implement a clear style of play. This game model will be implemented across the men’s first team and throughout the academy.

Wilcox will also lead all first-team recruitment.
