1963

What better place to start than with the truly incredible set of results from the Boxing Day fixtures of 1963.

Check out the staggering scorelines that fans were treated to as teams bagged a total of 66 goals in just 10 games:

  1. Blackpool 1-5 Chelsea
  2. Burnley 6-1 Manchester United
  3. Fulham 10-1 Ipswich
  4. Leicester 2-0 Everton
  5. Liverpool 6-1 Stoke
  6. Nottingham Forest 3-3 Sheffield United
  7. Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Bolton
  8. West Brom 4-4 Tottenham
  9. West Ham 2-8 Blackburn
  10. Wolves 3-3 Aston Villa

We can’t help but feel a little for the crowd in Leicester, who were only given a 2-0 win to enjoy!

Sheffield Wednesday 3-3 Manchester United (1992)

On the first ever Premier League round of fixtures on the 26th after the rebrand, United found themselves in a tough spot.

They may have indulged in a little too much eggnog as they trailed 3-0 at the break but Brian McClair’s brace and an Eric Cantona strike rescued United from Alex Ferguson’s naughty list.

Coventry City 3-2 Arsenal (1999)

Before he became Tottenham captain, Robbie Keane already provided Arsenal fans with a reason to dislike him.

The Irishman ruined their Christmas in ’99 with his late winner for Coventry.

Bolton 4-3 Newcastle (2002)

Jay Jay Okocha, Alan Shearer and er, Michael Ricketts and Shola Ameobi all shooting it out at the Reebok.

It’s everything you want under the tree at this time of year.

Chelsea 4-4 Aston Villa (2007)

What better way to shake off the Christmas cobwebs than an eight-goal thriller.

No fixture in the Premier League era has produced more goals than this incredible affair between Chelsea and Villa from 12 years ago.

Aston Villa 2-2 Arsenal (2008)

Just one year after their 4-4 draw with Chelsea, Villa were enjoying another Christmas cracker against London opposition.

It wasn’t a Silent Night in Birmingham that evening after Zat Knight scored late for a point.

Manchester City 5-1 Hull City (2008)

This game is more famous for what happened at half-time than anything Manchester City or Hull did on the field.

Yes, this is the occasion when Phil Brown held his team talk on the field – so furious was he that his side found themselves 4-0 down at the interval.

Manchester United 4-3 Newcastle (2012)

In his final Boxing Day game as manager, the legendary Alex Ferguson went out with a bang.

This was vintage as his side came from behind three times before winning at the death through Javier Hernandez.

Hull City 2-3 Manchester United (2013)

The number one strike in the above video helped United to a comeback win at Hull in 2013.

It also saved David Moyes’ job … for a while at least.

Bournemouth 3-3 West Ham (2017)

Bournemouth and West Ham unwrapped quite the gift for us all just a few short years ago.

The leftover Christmas turkey tasted all the better when eating it while watching those two trading blows in a classic.
