Ramón Morales was undoubtedly one of the best players to ever put on a Chivas uniform, racking up 66 goals for the club, which is still the ninth all-time in Chivas history.
His knowledge on and off the pitch was never in question, going into management at the end of his playing career, even taking over the Chivas interim role in 2015.
Many wondered why he never took his game to Europe and thanks to an interview with MX Sudamérica, we now know why.
“I had two approaches at the time, which could have seen me play in Europe. Sevilla from Spain and Marseille did not happen, since in Mexico they made it very difficult for you to get out.
“Being able to go out was not like ‘I’m leaving, I’m packing my bags, let’s go.’ You had to ask for a permit, the club owned your contract, and you had to benefit everyone.
“Nowadays, if you don’t have a contract, you can play wherever you want. Back then, there was a gentlemen’s agreement that made it difficult for you to get out and that’s how it happened.
“There were circumstances and it didn’t affect me. It didn’t affect me, nor was I frustrated but I would have liked to experience that experience.”
Last time Morales was involved in football was back in 2016, when he was the manager of Coras de Tepic, who were then playing in the Ascenso MX.
