Had the tournament took place when planned, last summer, Luke Shaw would not have been in any conversation involving his national side and despite a collective disappointment, the former Southampton defender can close the door on the past season with his head held high.
José Mourinho had his fair share of battles at Old Trafford but probably none as frequently as with Luke Shaw. And the 58-year-old has now snubbed him in favour of Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell.
“At left-back I would go with Chillwell (at the Euro’s),” Mourinho told talkSPORT. “I think he (Shaw) had a good season. Clearly an evolution in terms of emotion and professionalism. But Chilwell has something more, especially with the ball. The way he thinks, he is very calm under pressure.”
