Chelsea dominated the game against Manchester United last night without creating too many clear cut chances – at least that’s how it felt watching the game.

The numbers tell a different story though – according to the expected goals stats on FBRef, the Blues had an XG of 2.9, higher than any game they’ve played since they filleted Norwich 7-0.

Callum Hudson-Odoi had the cream of the crop early on, but the angle was tight and David de Gea made a great stop.

Then there was a long spell of blocked crosses and attempts to work the ball into the box, before Antonio Rudiger capped off the game with the second best chance, blazing the ball over when unmarked.

In the end though, despite adding up a pile of half chances, what they needed was a player with the time and space to pick their shot. Apart from those two crucial moments, they just didn’t get it.
