Chelsea’s top five progressive ball-carriers has been revealed for this Premier League season, and there is a surprise addition.

Chelsea need all the progressive ball carrying they can get right now as they continue to slump in bad form in the league.

They lost 4-1 against Brighton on aggregate across the last two games, one in the FA Cup, and another in the league on Friday night.

Chelsea’s defeat against Brighton on Friday night has been named as the ‘worst performance’ under Enzo Maresca so far, and they are not wrong with that analysis at all.

There has been plenty of debate over who is to blame for how bad Chelsea are right now, with fingers being pointed at not just Maresca, but at the sporting directors who built this squad, as well as directly at the club owners. And the stats have backed up that all three have to share the blame right now.

They really now need more from their attacking players, with some showing up more than others.

Madueke has most carries

According to Chelsea Stats, Noni Madueke tops Chelsea’s progressive ball carriers so far this season.

Progressive Carries by Chelsea players in the Premier League so far this season:

Noni Madueke: 110 Cole Palmer: 82 Pedro Neto: 79 Jadon Sancho: 68 Nicolas Jackson: 41 . . . Moises Caicedo: 27 Enzo Fernandez: 27

I’m surprised by seeing Jackson have so few. When you watch him, it looks like he is getting the ball, turning and running at defenders all the time. But I guess they aren’t always successful runs forward with the ball.
