Chukwuemeka returned to Dortmund in a deal worth £24m earlier this week, after the two clubs finally reached an agreement.

The 21-year-old made it clear his priority was a return to the Bundesliga club having spent the second half of last season on loan there.

Chelsea secure 30% sell on clause in Carney Chukwuemeka deal

Chelsea confirmed the departure of Chukwuemeka on Tuesday, and despite his talent the 21-year-old had a difficult time at Stamford Bridge.

Injuries limited Chukwuemeka to just 32 appearances for the Blues following his move from Aston Villa in a deal worth around £20m in 2022.

Chukwuemeka has joined Dortmund on a permanent basis.

Chukwuemeka showed promise under Mauricio Pochettino, but it became clear pretty quickly he wasn’t part of the plans under Enzo Maresca.

The midfielder had attracted interest from a number of clubs, and Juventus made a late approach for Chukwuemeka, but his heart was set on Dortmund.

Chelsea would have liked closer to his £40m release clause, but the Blues did secure a sell on clause, which they’ll benefit from in the future.

The Sun have reported that clause is a whopping 30%, which will certainly soften the blow of not getting as a big a transfer fee as they wanted.

Chelsea still have a number of players to sell

It’s good Chelsea have now sold Chukwuemeka, but there’s plenty of work still to do before the end of the transfer window.

Chelsea desperately need to sell Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku in order to move forward and complete deals for Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho.

Jackson is reportedly in talks with Bayern Munich, whilst Nkunku is attracting interest from clubs in Germany and Italy.

As well as the attacking duo, Chelsea are still looking to offload Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi, Tyrique George and Alfie Gilchrist.
