Chelsea goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger and midfielder Melanie Leupolz and Everton’s Leonie Maier have received call-ups to the Germany squad for this month’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifiers against Israel.

Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s side travel to Petah Tikva to face the Israeli’s on Friday 21 October before hosting the same nation in the return fixture in Essen on Tuesday 26 October.

The German Football Association, the DFB, announced head coach Voss-Tecklenburg’s 24-player squad earlier today with Barclays FA Women’s Super League stars Berger, Leupolz and Maier all making the selection.

Both Berger and Leupolz were members of the German squad which won their opening two FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifiers last month. Voss-Tecklenburg’s side defeated Bulgaria 7-0 in Cottbus before beating Serbia 5-1 in Chemnitz. Both players were named on the bench for those games with Leupolz coming on to score a stunning long range goal in the victory over Serbia.

Everton defender Maier missed last month’s camp through injury but she now finds herself included once again after recently making her playing return for her club. Maier is the most-capped of Germany’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League trio.

Berger, Leupolz and Maier will link-up with the German national team following their respective midweek club fixtures.
