Former Everton full-back Holmgaard joins Real Madrid | OneFootball

Former Everton full-back Sara Holmgaard has joined Spanish finetwork Liga F club Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The Whites announced news of the deal via a post on their official club website earlier this evening.

The 26-year-old defender will officially become a Real Madrid player on 1 July 2025 when her contract with former club Everton expires. It has been reported that Holmgaard has agreed an initial two-year deal with the Spanish giants.

Holmgaard joined former club Everton with twin sister Karen back in the summer 2022 transfer window. The Danish international initially went out on loan to Fortuna Hjørring to further her development before establishing herself as an important player for her parent club. Holmgaard offered versatility to Everton boss Brian Sørensen but she went on to make the left-back position her own.

The defender is improving season-on-season and there is no reason why she won’t go on to be a top player in a star-studded Real Madrid side in the next two years. The Whites are slowly closing the gap on long-time Spanish champions FC Barcelona and Holmgaard will be hoping to win some silverware in her time in Spain.

Holmgaard is one of seven first team players to leave Everton this summer.
