Alfie Gilchrist has completed his move from Chelsea to Sheffield United on a season-long loan deal.
The defender will link up with the Blades for the 2024-25 campaign as he looks to help Chris Wilder’s team bounce back from Premier League relegation last season.
Gilchrist was named Chelsea’s Academy Player of the Year in 2024 and made 17 appearances for the senior side after his debut last season.
The loan move does not include an option to purchase with Chelsea viewing Gilchrist as part of their long-term future. Following the completion of his move, the versatile defender said he is looking forward to the challenge of regular senior football at Bramall Lane.
“I am really looking forward to it. It is a great opportunity which the club and the manager have given to me,” he told the Sheffield United website.
“I am just looking forward to getting started. It has always been the plan to showcase what I can do in the Premier League with the chances I’ve had, so now I want to try and do that week in, week out, here.
“This is a new challenge. I am taking myself out of my comfort zone. I’ve been there (at Chelsea) a while now, so I am ready to kick on. I came here last season for an away day, and seeing the fans and how they get behind the team, how much they love it, I was impressed.”
