Sam Kerr netted a brace while Guro Reiten was also on target for The Blues as they collected the result that they needed to beat Manchester United to the title. The defeat for Reading means that they have finished the season bottom of the Barclays Women’s Super League table. The Royals will be playing their football in the second tier next term.
Chelsea went in search of the three points from the first whistle and Erin Cuthbert saw an early effort crash off the crossbar.
The Blues broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Guro Reiten delivered the ball onto the head of Kerr and the Australian international directed her effort into the back of the Reading next.
Chelsea doubled their lead late in the first half when Reiten found herself with a sight of goal and she produced a clinical finish from inside the box.
The Blues gift wrapped their title with a third goal late in the second half, Kerr grabbing her second goal of the game to cap-off another fine season on a personal level.
Emma Hayes’ Blues have now won six Barclays Women’s Super League titles including four on the bounce. Chelsea will undoubtedly be the team to beat again next season.
