Chelsea are unlikely to make a move for Liam Delap in January, but could advance their interest in the summer if they don’t sign another striker this month.
The expectation is that Chelsea are going to have a quiet window with the main focus thought to be on outgoings.
The Blues will be hoping to find solutions for Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka, whilst Cesare Casadei has attracted multiple suitors.
It’s not secret the Blues are looking to sign a striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson having pursued Victor Osimhen for most of the summer window, whilst a deal for Samu Omorodion also collapsed.
Jackson has made a good start to the season with nine league goals, but the last few games have shown Chelsea really lack an alternative with Christopher Nkunku not delivering and Marc Guiu clearly not trusted for Premier League minutes at this point.

The Blues are known to be fans of Delap and Enzo Maresca has spoken of his admiration of the 21-year-old, who has scored seven goals this season in a struggling Ipswich side.
The Italian coached Delap at Manchester City and the striker was part of the team which won the Premier League 2 title with current Chelsea stars Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia, although he’s insisted he’s fully focused on Ipswich.
However, Football London have reported a Chelsea move for Delap this month is deemed unlikely with the Tractor Boys desperate to keep hold of their star man as they look to beat the drop.

The report adds the Blues aren’t the only suitors, and if Chelsea don’t sign another striker this month it’s a situation that could gather pace in the summer.
Delap ran Chelsea ragged on Monday night and bullied the Blues defence and if that was an audition he passed it emphatically, whilst it will be interesting to see how he does for the remainder of the campaign.
