Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has ‘been in touch’ with Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent this week and could look to tie up a late move which would see the Manchester United star head to Stamford Bridge, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
Boehly led a consortium which completed a £4.25billion takeover of the west London giants in May and has not been afraid to back head coach Thomas Tuchel, having forked out more than £240million to bolster his squad.
Ronaldo made it clear last month that he is keen to leave Manchester United ahead of tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline as he is desperate to compete in this season’s Champions League.
The frontman’s wish emerged after his agent, Jorge Mendes, held a meeting with Boehly in Portugal and a potential switch to Chelsea was discussed.
It is understood that, in a late bid to secure a move for his client, Mendes has returned to Stamford Bridge to investigate whether a transfer is possible.
According to Sky Sports, the super agent has also approached Napoli over a potential switch to the Serie A giants.
The report suggests it was proposed that Ronaldo, a 189-cap Portugal international, would head to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium and Manchester United buy the Italian outfit’s Victor Osimhen, but that high-profile swap deal has not come to fruition.
Jones understands that Boehly and Mendes have held discussions over Ronaldo in the closing stages of the transfer window.
The journalist believes the Chelsea owner has not given up hope of being able to strike a late deal with Manchester United.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Boehly and Mendes have been in touch again this week and they’ve built a relationship from the summer, when Boehly first visited his home.
“Since that initial conversation cropped up, it’s never been totally off the table, in the eyes of the owner.”

Ronaldo is just two goals shy of reaching 700 across his club career, which emphasises that he is a prolific frontman who would strike fear into any defender.
He is also a five-time Ballon d’Or winner and has got his hands on some of football’s biggest prizes – whether that be at club or international level – so there is no doubt that the 37-year-old has a winning mentality.
Ronaldo has made 230 Premier League appearances over the course of his two spells with Manchester United, so he would not need any time to adjust to the rigours of the top flight and would be capable of making an instant impact.
