Chelsea have moved their attention away from Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly as they search for a new midfielder according to reports.

The January transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday nigh, meaning we are now into the final hours and Chelsea still have a lot of work to do.

The Blues are still looking to finalise several exits, whilst they are trying to bring in one or two new faces to strengthen the squad.

Chelsea move attention away from O’Reilly

The Blues wanted to add an attacker, but with such little time that seems unlikely and their attention is now on trying to bring a midfielder in.

Chelsea lack depth in midfield given injury issues with Romeo Laiva, whilst Kiernan Dewsbry-Hall seemingly isn’t trusted.

This means a lot of strain is being place on both Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, and an injury to one of them would leave Chelsea with a huge problem.

The Blues have both Lesley Ugochukwu and Andrey Santos on loan, but are unlikely to recall either, whilst they did enquire for Juventus star Douglas Luiz.

It’s been reported the Blues are now looking to bring a midfielder in, and they have made an enquiry for O’Reilly, with Fabrizio Romano reporting the Chelsea would be prepared to pay an “important fee” for the teenager.

However, according to reports Chelsea have already shifted their attention away from O’Reilly after it was reported the cost would be too much.

The Secret Scout took to X.com and said:

“As first reported by @FabrizioRomano I understand now that Man City have knocked back Chelsea’s enquiry for Nico O’Reilly, it would take a huge offer to even entertain.

“Chelsea have turned their attention elsewhere to bring in a midfielder before window closes tonight.”

Why Chelsea are scrambling round for a midfielder on deadline day doesn’t make sense given they have options they can recall, and if it’s a young midfielder they are looking for they could just use Sam Rak-Sakyi for the remainder of the season.
